Latest News 12 September 2005Four films are being shown at this years Wirksworth festival and then Wirksworth Film launches its 4th season on October 9th with Woody Allen's latest Melinda and Melinda, released earlier this year. It's a comedy drama telling alternating stories of Melinda's life either as comedy or tragedy.The winter season of 8 films continues with a mix of cutting edge mainstream drama from Europe and America including the recent French hit story about a marriage in reverse, 5 x 2, Michael Caine in the remake of The Quiet American; Look at Me a sophisticated story of family and romance, and the Italian romance Bread and Tulips. We then have American independant cult director Jim Jarmusch's excellent drama about cons on the run in Louisiana, Down by Law, and a couple of classics: gripping noir thriller Double Indemnity and Powell and Pressburger's Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. The venue is Wirksworth's Parish Rooms, set to be warm, bright and cosy after a post-festival refurbishment, films are shown on the second Sunday in the month, starting at 7.30pm, bar open 7.00pm. Membership of £20 gives entry to the whole season of eight films, and forms can be picked up from Wirksworth Post Office, the Library and during the Wirksworth Festival from 13th September onwards. Joining the Wirksworth Film SocietyMembershipwill be £20 for the season with free entry to the 8 Wirksworth Film Society films starting in October. We will be recruiting members during the Festival. Application forms will be available in Wirksworth Library, at the Post Office and during the Wirksworth Festival. Non members will be able buy tickets (£4) as guests but must book 24 hours in advance - 'phone number to be announced. What does being a film society mean?The advantages of being a film society are:
