We welcome Colin Humphreys as our new chairman.
We now have a final list (subject to availability) as follows:
Thank you for your past support and we hope you enjoyed the last season's programme; an eclectic selection of excellent films.
Highlights for me personally were RUN LOLA RUN, RIFIFI and the silent film METROPOLIS with live music from committee member Colin Humphreys and ensemble.
A low point was the inadequate sound during THE CONSTANT GARDENER - but we have taken advice on this and it will not happen again! We have high quality kit which is just [only a little bit] a bit more complicated to operate than a home set up.
Next season we are back to the Town Hall, a warmer and more comfortable venue than the Parish Rooms, with a proper bar. PLEASE NOTE we will showing on the first Friday of each month instead of Sunday.
Jenny Hoon has resigned as chair. Both Jenny and Peter remain on the committee but taking less active roles. Adam Salt and Pam Smedley have dropped out.
These four, especially Jenny, have done a great deal of the work during the four years of our existence and it will be difficult to proceed without them.
We urgently need to build up committee numbers and the continuance of our film society depends on building up a new and stronger committee.
We really need at least 5 new members to take an active part in running Wirksworth Film. It means commitment, but more hands - less work. It's rewarding in many ways and the input of new faces and ideas could be interesting and might take us forward in new directions.
We particularly need someone who could contribute on the technical side so that we get the best possible performance from our excellent kit, but there are plenty of other jobs too - and you get to choose the films!
So this is an invitation for you to join our committee - we need you NOW.

The film selection sub committee for 2007-08 is hard at it working on a new programme. In the mean time you can look at past programmes by clicking on the archive links above.
Not short of opinions themselves but neverthless would welcome suggestions from members. Titles preferably, with comments. Comments without titles would of course be considered but are often suprisingly hard to act upon e.g. "theres a brill South American film about lesbians " - actually we did research this and came up with too long a list of suprising alternatives.
We often hear that people don't like too many sub-titled foreign films. Also that some members (and committee members) would resign immediately if a limit was to be placed on foreign films. There seems to be no formula for an ideal programme and the audience is a moving target. Perhaps the best we can hope for is diversity and variety.
